Being one of the most important rooms of the house the bedroom should be relaxing, refreshing and allow you to unwind and decompress from a stressful day. When your bedroom is full of clutter, dirt, chaos and disorder it’s hard to kick back and loosen up. Try out these simple tips for creating a cozy bedroom oasis you’ll never want to leave:
Having chaos surrounding you such as papers, work documents, kids toys and messy clothes has no place being in your bedroom! Utilize concealed storage as much as possible, try using a trunk you can use as both a seat and a storage system or a built-in drawer under your bed. This will allow you to store all of your things without the messiness and clutter.
If you have a particularly small apartment or would prefer to free up more storage space, consider using self-storage. This will allow you to clear out the things that seem to always be around your room that you don’t use often, that simply take up unnecessary space! For as little as 50rm a month you can rent out a unit size suitable for your needs to store your goods and eliminate the bedroom clutter.
Treat Yourself as a Guest
When tidying up your room, think about how you would make up a spare bedroom for your friends and family. Start by giving your room a thorough deep clean (new sheets, a vacuum, dust… the works!). When you arrange your room to be as clean, tidy and welcoming as you would a guest bedroom, you’ll enjoy the space a lot more.
Keep It Simple
When decorating, try and avoid colors that are too jarring or crazy. You want to carefully choose shades based on what makes you feel the best. Paint your walls a color that is soothing to you and make you feel the most at ease. Typically, these colors are muted and light.
Invest in Your Bed and Bedding
Since it’s the place in your room that you’ll be spending most of your time, it makes sense to splash out a little on a fantastic bed and bedding that feels incredible. You will never understand the value of investing in a good mattress until you finally sleep in one, as you will not only be investing in a bed but also a good night’s sleep. Realistically, a mattress is the most used piece of furniture in the entire house so you might as well make it the comfiest! Once you have the perfect mattress ensure you have luxurious bedding such as Egyptian cotton or suede to curl up in at the end of a long day.
No Working Zone
I’m sure you’ve heard this one before… and for good reason! Leave the work (and work stress) at the office the best to your abilities, but at the very least make a conscious effort to keep it out of your bedroom. This is the one room in the house where you should associate nothing but relaxation and serenity. Keep the desk for the spare room or the office and absolutely avoid working in bed as this will upset your sleep.
